How do I feel after almost a year?

When I started with you Nupurji, I had my doubts about my diet plans…whether it would be the same as umpteen other programs I had followed. Being pregnant the second time at the age of 40 & a mother to my 3 year old daughter, I Nora Remedios would like to write about the difficulties I went through my previous pregnancy & the smooth journey of my current pregnancy.

In my first pregnancy I suffered from bloating, indigestion due to slowing down of the digestive system which resulted in constipation & acidity. I even experienced anxiety shortness of breath because my diaphragm was increasingly pushed up by my growing uterus which was reducing lung capacity. We all know that hormonal changes are part & parcel of being pregnant & these hormonal changes contribute to mood swings which results in bursting out at your partner. My thyroid levels were high, I had water retention in my body, due to which my legs were swollen up to my knees and my entire body was bloated. The colour of my skin had changed and become darker due to a hormonal imbalance as per the doctor. I used to burp continuously as soon as I had my meals and feel tired at all times and could not get a proper night sleep. I fell down twice once on my knees and second on my back.

During my second pregnancy I decided that I could not go through the same problems again, so I approached Dr.Nupur Krishnan during my third month. She said I should have come to her earlier as she could help me better, and she put me on a balanced diet.

I have found a remarkable difference after I have changed my routine diet for the one which Dr.Nupur Krishnan has recommended. Although I could follow only 60 – 70% my thyroid levels were under control, no water retention, no swelling, no bloating of the body, skin texture has improved. This time I did not even experience anxiety & shortness of breath because of the diet plan which helped me from going through this experience. Since I am 40 years of age my Gynecologist Dr suspected I would have gestational diabetes but with the diet I did not even have gestational diabetes. A back problem and a recent knee injury was what brought me to you for weight reduction. In our first meeting, you told me to do a complete work-up (blood investigations, bone mineral densityetc) so that you could work upon any deficiencies through your diet. I was extremely impressed by this. It was not just weight loss, but also being healthy overall.

The diet recommended for me was after taking into consideration our dietary habits at home. So it was a healthier modification of what we usually had, and not an artificial “diet”. I realised from your various recipes that eating healthy could also be “tasty”. Also your inputs on how to make the food we eat more healthier were extremely useful, which i have now totally incorporated in my cooking.
